We anchored in Lovina Beach a casual resort area on the north coast of Bali. Our first adventure was getting some dental work
done. With some checking we found Dr Hilda, a terrific Chinese dentist who spoke English. This area was the best place in
Indonesia for good food that was cheap!!! We enjoyed our first look at Balinese Dance at a group dinner with children performers.
Their art and dance express age old stories from their culture simular to Romeo and Juliet. We took a road trip to the
Balinese Botanical Gardens which were quite remarkable. Our best trip was over the mountains to the cultural center for
handicrafts for 3 days. It's a small touristy city in central Bali named Ubud.

It was hard but Lynn tried to curb Chuck's rapture for the artwork in Ubud and his desire to buy up a bit of everything In sight! We visited
art museums, temples of all sorts, saw artisans working on wood carving, basketry and weaving projects and then just enjoyed the
ambience walking around the town. The most remarkable event was the highly professional dancers at two separate evening events
showing 2 completely different kinds of Balinese dance. Hopefully the photos show how exotic it was but you have to imagine the
Gamelon orchestra of wooden xylophones, gongs, chimes, cymbals, drums and what sounded like trash can lids!!!
