Leaving Singapore, Cyan and crew took our time along the coast of Malaysia cruising towards our goal of Langkawi,
an island group in the NW near Thailand. We plan to make it our primary dock for a year while we travel the east and
return home for a visit during 2010. Johor was our first stop and where the Malaysian Rally began with a tour of this growing city.
Malaysia development is well beyond Indonesia but not as First World as Singapore. There is much expansion going
on all around this country. Ships carry massive amounts of palm oil away to all parts of the world. We couldn't help but
notice the well covered women due to the recent conservative Moslem trend. 20 years ago they were not so fanaticallly
to the right and rarely dressed so covered. Some are concerned about this reactionary trend. We thought they mostly looked
"warm and sweaty" in the awful heat!!!

Next stop was Melaca, a historic old town with interesting areas to walk around and discover including museums, a cathedral and
an old 1511 Portuguese Fort. All along Malaysia they have swallow nesting areas to grow birdsnests for soup.
We bought lovely batik paintings from a master, J Choo in Chinatown. Further north we left CYAN in
Port Dickson while we spent several days in the capital of Kuala Lumpur, means "muddy confluence". KL was a typical
big city with tall buildings. These folks love to build tall structures in Malaysia like needle towers and huge ferris wheels that
folks can go up into for the view. After KL we set out overnight and sailed straight to Langkawi always looking out for fishing
boats and nets. The Malacca Straight is one of the busiest areas for ships in the world but we were out of the main traffic
in the barge channel.
